Biography

Dixon Lau discovered his admiration of fine art over twenty years ago when he first saw the Group of Seven permanent exhibitions in the National Gallery of Canada, and has been learning painting from local professional artists ever since. With the foundation of Chinese water-ink media he grew up with in Hong Kong, he gradually evolved to western watercolor techniques after he relocated to San Jose in 2000. He found the beautiful California coast a major source of inspiration for his paintings, and plein-air in oil to be the way to capture the color and the feeling which photography can not. He started exhibiting his work and became a noticeable award-winning artist in 2005 in AVA Art Festival at the Triton Museum of Art. He has been a frequent participant in the Silicon Valley Open Studio. His art is known to convey tranquility and a sense of peacefulness from nature. His goal is to continually deepen in California landscape paintings, and to expand his ability to make a great contribution to the art community.
